Inclusive Healthcare Model (MIS)

With the support of our donor Liliane Fonds, this project will be developed over the next three years 2018, 2019, and 2020 and seeks to include and advocate the attention of people with disabilities in the inclusive health care model organized by Guatemala's public health ministry.

This project is based in three objectives:

  1. The first seeks to understand the concept of disability through the worldview of the Mayan Tzutujil people of Santiago Atitlán. Training of MIS personnel regarding the traditional and community attitude towards disabilities is critical to achieving this objective.

  2. The second objective is to identify and provide attention to people with disabilities at a young age, emphasizing community member involvement and the participation of families.

  3. The third goal is to use the results project to influence Guatemala's Public Health Ministry on a larger scale, systematizing the results to share the experience and promote inclusive healthcare across all of Guatemala.
